Bison Narrowly Miss Advancing In Regional Playoffs; 2011 Season Comes To An End

The NDSU Men’s Soccer team completed their 2011 season with two games in the Region V Men’s Soccer Tournament in Commerce City, CO. The tournament consisted of three pools of three teams. The winners of each of the three pools advanced to the first and third place matches while the highest qualifying second place team advanced to the third place game.

NDSU’s first opponent was a very talented team from Colorado State University. The Bison lost a hard-fought 1-0 game to the Rams, which meant they needed to beat the University of Nebraska for any chance to advance out of pool play.

And that’s just what the Bison did.

NDSU dominated the Cornhuskers and won by a score of 4-1. However, the Bison’s loss in the opener meant they could only advance as an at-large team since Colorado State won their three-team pool. Unfortunately for NDSU, Colorado School of Mines qualified for the at-large bid since they had a tie on their record instead of a loss.

The Bison finished their 2011 campaign as runner up in the Great Plains Soccer Conference and with a final record of 9-4-1.
