NDSU at Minnesota-State University-Moorhead – September 19, 2007

On a cool, breezy night in Fargo, the NDSU Bison prepared to take on their cross-river rivals, the Minnesota State University-Moorhead Dragons.  The game began with both teams playing tough.  MSUM got on the board first in the 22nd minute.  An MSUM player was fouled near the left corner flag giving the Dragons a free kick.  The Bison, unable to win a 50/50 ball, allowed a Dragon player to run through unmarked and head the ball into the net.  This lead wouldn’t last long.  In the 30th minute, Luanga Njoya stole the ball from a defender, took a few touches, and blasted a shot past the Dragon goal keeper.  The Bison added another goal in the 40th minute when Njoya scored the goal of the season thus far.  He received a long pass from Fernando Bales, trapped it with his back to the goal, turned and fired a 30 yard half-volley into the top right corner of the goal.  The game would stay 2-1 into halftime.

NDSU really used Njoya’s goal as motivation and opened up the flood gates in the second half.  Rob Choiniere gathered up a rebound and scored after a left footed shot from Brad Bateman was saved by the goalkeeper.  The Bison continued the rout with a goal from Jetse Vollema.  His goal was set up by Brent Nelson, who crossed it in from the right side.  Nelson continued his excellent passing and crossing with a cross to Selam Ahmed, who knocked one in with his thigh.  The Bison finished their scoring in the 79th minute when Eric Johnson ripped a shot from 18 yards out after a pass from Austin Ash.  The game ended with a score of 6-1.  The victory improved NDSU's record to 3-0-1 on the year while MSUM suffered its first loss of the season, dropping to 2-1-1.
