NDSU vs. University of North Dakota– September 15, 2007

It was an extremely windy day in Fargo as the Bison took on their in-state rivals, the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux.  UND started the game with the wind at their backs and they capitalized early.  In the 6th minute a Sioux midfielder came in and headed in a goal off of a corner kick.  NDSU had several counterattack chances during the first half but couldn’t put any away.  Both teams played tough dealing with the strong winds and the score went into halftime 1-0 in favor of the Sioux.

With the wind in their favor in the second half, the Bison started the second half strong.  Neither team was able to string enough passes together to score.  NDSU failed on their best scoring chance in the 60th minute.  Selam Ahmed was fouled in the penalty box resulting in a Bison penalty kick.  Unfortunately, senior captain Bob Smith put the kick wide right.  NDSU finally got on the board in the 81st minute when Brent Nelson received a flick from Ahmed and put it past the keeper.  The Bison pushed hard but were unsuccessful the rest of the half.  The game ended in a tie and brought the Bison record to 2-0-1 on the season.  UND moved to 1-1-1 for the year.
