NDSU vs. Augustana College
– September 18, 2005
The Bison put together an overall
great game and cruised past Augustana 7-0 on a rare wind-free Sunday afternoon
in Fargo. NDSU dominated the fatigued Vikings (playing
their second game of the day) throughout, using both a creative attack and
stout defense to record the victory. After
a few close chances, NDSU got the scoring underway in the 20th minute when
Fernando Bales ripped a shot that the Augustana keeper barely got a hand to,
and the shot ricocheted off the crossbar.
Eric Stanley collected the rebound and passed the ball back across the
net to Bales, who tapped in the shot to put the Bison up 1-0. In the 32nd minute, Selam Ahmed scored his
third goal of the season after a scramble in front of the net, with Nate
Shubert getting the assist. Twelve
minutes later, Ahmed struck again off of a great pass from defender Sham
Funk. Just before halftime, midfielder
Pat Beaver scored the best goal of the game.
Ahmed sent the ball towards the net, and Beaver redirected the ball from
a seemingly impossible angle into the net to give the Bison a 4-0 halftime
lead. It was more of the same for the
Bison in the second half, as defender Jared Misialek chipped in a great shot from
about 30 yards out over the Augustana keeper in the 50th minute. About midway through the second half, the
Bison struck again when Danny Montplasir sent a great pass to Thomas Larson who
put the shot away to move the lead to 6 goals.
Larson returned the favor in the 81st minute with an assist to
Funk. The Bison’s decisive victory moved
their record to 3-1-2 on the year, while the Vikings dropped to 1-3-1.
