NDSU at University of Mary
– September 4, 2005
The Bison fought to a 1-1 tie
against the University of Mary Marauders on a warm, muggy day in Bismarck. The game began fairly even, with both sides
fighting hard to get early opportunities.
NDSU struck first in the 14th minute, when Brad Bateman took a free kick
from about 20 yards out. The ball took a
light deflection off of one of the defender’s shoulders and found the back of
the net to give the Bison a 1-0 lead.
Towards the end of the first half, the University of Mary
was awarded a penalty kick, but they were unable to capitalize and missed the
kick. The halftime whistle sounded with
the Bison still up 1-0. In the second
half, it didn’t take long for the Marauders to get the equalizer. Just seven minutes into the second half, a U
of Mary midfielder sent a nice cross across the goal to a wide open forward,
who sent a header to the back of the net.
The remainder of the game was full of great chances for both sides, but
neither team was able to capitalize on their opportunities. The tie moved NDSU’s record to 1-0-1 on the
year and the University of Mary’s mark to 0-1-1.
