NDSU vs. UND – September 12, 2004
The Bison recorded their first
victory of the season on a windy day at Ellig Sports Complex in Fargo, a convincing 7-2
win over the Sioux. NDSU was playing with
the wind in the first half, and took full advantage amassing a 6-0 halftime
lead. Sham Funk lead of the Bison
scoring with a penalty kick, followed by goals from Nathan Shubert, two goals
by Selam Ahmed, and two goals by Nate Chandler.
The Bison absolutely dominated play, and finished off their
opportunities much better than their previous game, a 2-1 loss to the University of Mary.
In the second half, the contest was more up-and-down due to UND having
the wind advantage. The Sioux got on the
scoreboard with a penalty kick and added a late goal, while Nathan Shubert
scored his second goal of the game for the Bison’s lone goal of the second
half. The win moved NDSU to 1-1 in the
Great Plains Soccer Conference, while dropping UND’s conference record to 0-2.
